More than 1000 athletes expected

La troisième édition de ce rendez-vous annuel dont le comité d’organisation a fait l’annonce la semaine dernière à Yaoundé, est déjà sur les starting-blocks.

The third edition of the N'Djamena-Kousseri International Marathon is scheduled for September 9th, after a period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. For this Act III, Honorable Kamssouloum Abba Kabir has set high standards to make this marathon (which covers a distance of 21.1 km) a major sporting competition. It brings together not only professionals in the field but also amateurs, veterans, and young participants. It is a competition that meets international norms and standards, benefiting from the technical support of both the Cameroon and Chad Athletics Federations, as well as the African Athletics Confederation. The core values that motivated the creation of this event remain the same after two editions: to celebrate the virtues of sports, break colonial barriers, create a framework in which young people from two countries sharing the same border and passion can live in perfect harmony, and celebrate friendship between Chad and Cameroon. Organized as part of the Sahel meetings, this sports event has the unique feature of connecting two countries through two sister cities, N'Djamena in Chad and Kousseri in Cameroon, through a race covering a distance of 21.1 km.
des athlètes venant de 21 pays dont huit de l’Afrique de l’Est réputés en athlétisme. « Avec le lien historique et de la nature transfrontalière qui unie la ville de N’djamena à celle de Kousseri, il devient donc nécessaire de créer pareil lien sur le plan sportif. En réalité, ce projet est le fruit d’une continuité, car j’organise depuis des années, de nombreux tournois sportifs en collaboration avec nos frères venus du Tchad. Dans un souci de ressortir et de faire naitre aussi des deux nations concernées les mêmes émotions, l’idée nous est donc venue de créer un pont sportif entre ces deux nations soeurs. D’où l’initiation de cette course semi-marathon », confie le promoteur du Mink. Au vu du succès qu’a connu les éditions précédentes, le comité d’organisation a estimé, qu’il serait logique de renouveler cette heureuse expérience avec ce concours qui a le soutien du président de la Confédération africaine d’athlétisme, le Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum. Cette année, le comité s’y est pris un peu plus tôt, afin d’offrir aux populations du bassin du lac Tchad, une édition de dimension internationale.
